Being healthy
and feeling good is so important in
today's world. Exercise
is a fundamental part of life, but most workouts only offer exercise for
the body. To be really healthy we need more, stilling the activity and
continual chatter of the mind, relaxing the body feeling free of tension,
helps us to become more sensitive and intuitive from within. We have a
greater sense of inner peace and contentment. Just ten minutes of Yoga
practice each day can make us feel so much more centred and ready for
everyday life.
Yoga has been practiced for over
5,000 years. It makes us feel so good and by the end of a class we feel
calmly energised but relaxed. The whole body feels strengthened, energy
levels increase, health and vitality improves.
We feel more peace of mind, a sense of inner wellbeing, and a greater
enthusiasm for life.
Yoga postures
increase flexibility, suppleness,
strength, balance and co-ordination. We are continually exploring our bodies as we do
postures. They take us into many different shapes, gently extending us out of
our comfort zone. With the marriage of the breath through a posture we start to release tight spots and tension flushing through fresh energy.
This allows more energy to flow through the whole body.
The
breath
is at the heart of Yoga practice, bringing
poses to life, animating the stretch, giving flow and fluidity to the movement.
Used as a focal point both in relaxation and meditation practices. Cultivating
good breathing habits in everyday life is fundamental to good health, helping to
calm and steady the mind, nourish and cleanse the whole body. Yoga breathing
exercises enhance this. Yoga teaches us that we need to learn
how
to relax
both our body and mind. Being able to relax
reflects in our whole persona and knowing how to relax releases stress and
tension as well as building our resistance to it. Meditation
specifically helps us to rest the mind and relieve the
bodies physical, mental and nervous tensions. With regular practice we get to
know ourselves on all levels, which helps us to develop our true potential in
every day life.
Benefits of practicing Yoga
are many, each practice
has therapeutic qualities. Students come to my classes for many different
reasons, for relaxation, helping with stress, back and neck problems, headaches,
insomnia, digestive problems, general stiffness, building up energy from long
term illness, menopausal symptoms, PMS and pregnancy. It never ceases to amaze
me how many other benefits are derived too!
Yoga
is a way of learning to live in happy harmony with life
